The 2-Minute At-Home Kidney Health Test Every Cat Owner Should Have
Detect elevated urea levels in just 2 minutes
Why Kidney-Chek™ Is Different
Kidney-Chek™ is a scientifically developed saliva-based test designed to detect urea, a waste product normally filtered by healthy kidneys.
Each pack contains two tests, making it simple to repeat tests and track changes over time. When kidney function becomes impaired, urea levels in the blood may rise and can become detectable in saliva.
This allows Kidney-Chek™ to provide a non-invasive, at-home screening method without blood draws or stressful procedures for your cat.
What Does Kidney-Chek™ Detect?
Kidney-Chek™ measures urea (Blood Urea Nitrogen / BUN-related levels).
Healthy kidneys continuously filter urea from the bloodstream.
When kidney function declines, urea can accumulate in the blood and may then diffuse into saliva, where it can be detected by the test.
Elevated urea levels may be associated with:
- Kidney dysfunction
- Reduced kidney filtration
- Chronic kidney disease (CKD)
- Acute kidney stress
- Dehydration
- Certain urinary tract complications
- Other conditions requiring veterinary evaluation
This makes Kidney-Chek™ a useful early screening tool to support proactive pet care.
Clinically Supported Veterinary Research
Kidney-Chek™ has been evaluated in a clinical veterinary study involving both cats and dogs across multiple veterinary clinics, comparing saliva urea readings with standard blood urea measurements.
The study was published in a peer-reviewed veterinary journal:

The research demonstrated a significant correlation between saliva urea and blood urea levels, supporting its use as a non-invasive screening method for detecting elevated urea associated with kidney dysfunction.
Why Every Cat Owner Should Consider One at Home
Cats are extremely skilled at hiding illness.
By the time symptoms become obvious, kidney disease may already be at an advanced stage.
Kidney-Chek™ helps owners take a more proactive approach by enabling regular at-home screening that may highlight potential changes earlier.
Especially useful for:
- Senior cats
- Cats predisposed to kidney disease
- Cats with previous kidney concerns
- Cats with urinary tract issues
- Cats on long-term medication
- Owners wanting an additional layer of preventative health monitoring
This is not a replacement for veterinary care.
It is an additional screening tool to help identify possible warning signs earlier.
Easy 4 Steps — How to Use Kidney-Chek™ for Cats
- Remove the test strip from its packaging and prepare a timer.
- Gently press the absorbent pad against your cat’s gums for around 5 seconds until fully wet.
- Start the timer and wait exactly 2 minutes for the test to develop.
- Read the result immediately using the colour scoring guide on the packaging.
Simple, quick, and designed to minimise stress for both cat and owner.

“As someone who supposedly knows animals, I only caught my cat Scout’s kidney disease because I took a Kidney-Chek strip home to test him out of curiosity. It turns out he is in stage 3 kidney disease! I would highly recommend Kidney-Chek™ to all veterinary professionals!”

Important Veterinary Notice
Kidney-Chek™ is designed as a screening tool for detecting elevated saliva urea levels. It is not intended to diagnose Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and does not replace blood testing or veterinary evaluation. If elevated results occur, or if your cat shows symptoms such as increased thirst, increased urination, lethargy, vomiting, appetite loss, or weight loss, consult your veterinarian promptly.
